What to do if you receive a RIF/Lay-off?
Click on the link, referrals@jatc26.org, and email us a copy of your Termination slip. Also provide us your full name, last 4 digits of Social Security Number, phone number, and classification. We will then send you an available to work number from that same email.
DC Apprentice License
Please use the following information to obtain a Washington DC apprentice, journeyman, or master electrical license if needed. For apprentices, you can upload a picture of your dues receipt as documentation you are an apprentice.
You must go on-line to apply for or renew your license and submit payment.
Visit —Board of Industrial Trades | dlcp (dc.gov)– then scroll to Applicant for those applying for the first time. For those renewing licenses, you will select licensee and follow the steps. If you are renewing you can also access dcra – Sign In
The license should be able to be printed from the web site or verified electronically by using the ”License Lookup” feature by name or license number.
The JATC does not control or direct the licensing process. Any questions or problems should be handled with the District of Columbia Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs’ (DCRA) Occupational and Professional Licensing Administration (OPLA) by calling 202-442-4320 or 202-442-4400.

Advance to R1
If you can answer Yes to all the following questions then you are eligible for the R1 Classification on the third Monday of this month. All of the information you need to answer these questions can be found in your TradeSchool account. Certifications are earned when you complete a Residential class.
- Has it been one year since you became an RTP? In your TradeSchool account open the Apprentice tab, look under the Heading of “Standing”. If your next advance date is before today’s date then you can answer Yes to this question.
- Do you have the work hours needed to advance? In your TradeSchool account open the Apprentice tab, look under the Heading of “Standing”. If you have advance hours greater than 1650 then you can answer Yes to this question.
Advance to R2
If you can answer Yes to all the following questions then you are eligible for the R2 Classification on the third Monday of this month. All of the information you need to answer these questions can be found in your TradeSchool account. Certifications are earned when you complete a Residential class.
- Has it been six months since you became an R1? In your TradeSchool account open the Apprentice tab, look under the Heading of “Standing”. If your next advance date is before today’s date then you can answer Yes to this question.
- Do you have the work hours needed to advance? In your TradeSchool account open the Apprentice tab, look under the Heading of “Standing”. If you have advance hours greater than 575 then you can answer Yes to this question.
Advance to R3
If you can answer Yes to all the following questions then you are eligible for the R3 Classification on the third Monday of this month. All of the information you need to answer these questions can be found in your TradeSchool account. Certifications are earned when you complete a Residential class.

- Residential 1-Conduit Bending or CML Conduit Bending
- OSHA 10
- Basic First Aid
- Basic Life Support
Advance to R4

- Do you have 10,000 total work hours? In your TradeSchool account open the Apprentice tab, look under the Heading of “Employment”. If your Total Hours are 10,000 or greater then you can answer Yes to this question.
- Do you have the certifications you need to advance? In your TradeSchool account open the My Account tab and click on Certifications. You must have all the certifications listed or you must already be an R7 or R8 to answer Yes to this question.
- Residential 1-Math or CML Tech Math
